The Met Department has issued a weather forecast indicating that extreme heat will persist in the southern districts of the country, while certain areas in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pothohar, and northeast Punjab can expect rainfall.

According to the department, the southern districts of Punjab, along with most areas in Balochistan and Sindh, will remain under the grip of a severe heatwave. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses and to stay hydrated.

In contrast, some regions in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are likely to experience rain. The department has forecasted rainfall in Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Swat, Chitral, Dir, Abbottabad, Haripur, and Mansehra. This rainfall is expected to bring temporary relief from the prevailing hot weather in these areas.

For the capital city, Islamabad, the weather is expected to be hot during the day, with a chance of rain in the evening.

The weather in most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will remain extremely hot, adding to the discomfort caused by the ongoing heatwave. The Met Office advises people to limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours and to seek shelter in cooler places.

On Thursday, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued a stern advisory for June, cautioning residents of Sindh and Punjab about an impending extreme heatwave.

In Sindh, the districts of Umarkot, Tharparkar, Tando Allahyar, Matiari, and Sanghar are expected to experience sweltering temperatures, pushing the mercury to alarming levels. Similarly, in Punjab, the districts of Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalpur are likely to be under the oppressive grip of the heatwave.
